The New Lord(s) of the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has always had a special role to play for England... So special in fact that in the early 1970s, the Vectis National Party campaigned for de jure independence of the island in the form of a crown dependency, like the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. In this timeline, they succeeded. Poorer than the other crown dependencies, as well as most of Southern England, the Isle of Wight is a very conservative little lordship, though it is quite popular with English (and for some reason also Spanish) tourists. However it is largely ignored on the world stage, for understandable reasons... But ultimately the Vectians are still happy with the special treatment they are receiving.
