United Provinces of North America

A very simple, tiny map for the United Provinces of North America, the successor state to British North America. The UPNA is the second-largest nation on Earth, only marginally smaller than the Federal Republic of Eurasia, and the third most populous behind China and the Indian Federation. The UPNA was founded in 1839 by the colonies of Quebec, Nova Scotia, Huron, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Vandalia, Transylvania, Cumberland, North Carolina and South Carolina as the Confederation of British North America. It was renamed to UPNA in 1873.

Representatives of each of the 51 provinces and the 3 associated nations meet in either the Senate or the House of Commons in the nation's capital of Philadelphia. While the members of the Senate (two for every province/associated nation) are elected via a first-past-the-post system, the House of Commons is elected via a mixed-member-proportional system. Because of this the UPNA is a multiparty democracy, though most senators and HoC members are from the two dominant parties, which are the Social Democrats and the Conservatives. The Prime Minister, the UPNA's head of government, is not elected directly but rather is the head of the governing party.

Relations with the First Nations living in the UPNA are mostly good. Most tribes, bands and clans often have control over First Nation Counties, which function like normal provincial counties but with special autonomy. Some small groups that lack the numbers to establish their own First Nation Counties meanwhile simply form tribal associations, which serve as cultural authorities and advocacy groups. Several First Nation groups however also live in one of the three Associated Nations: the Great Plains Confederacy, the State of Muskogee and the State of Nunatsiavut. These associated nations have more privileges than the normal provinces, including their own immigration system. The State of Muskogee was the first of these associated nations and the sole one to be self-created, being originally an independent protectorate of the British Empire before it, Georgia and the two Floridas joined the UPNA.
